Introduction
Minimizing downtime is one of the biggest challenges for business executives planning an office relocation. Can you afford to be “out of business,” even temporarily, while desks, computers and critical office equipment and files are moved from one place to another? When employees aren’t able to fulfill their jobs, productivity drops, business opportunities are missed, and customers don’t get their customary level of service.
Click here to find out more about how to keep your business productive and employees humming during your move with move management services. This article will soon be published in Employment Relations Today.
Think moving your company is expensive? While controlling costs is, indeed, a primary concern when considering a relocation, few companies realize that there are also several ways to actually make money on a move. Tune in to our next issue where we tell you how to PROFIT from your relocation.
A GGC Success Story
GGC calculates a successful office relocation for accounting firm, Grant Thornton.
The Challenge
We had two weeks to move a 70-person company. After many months of finalizing the budget and construction plan, we were given a tight deadline to move Grant Thornton’s San Jose employees and clean out their offices. As move management consultants and coordinators, we generally take three months to prepare for a move of this size, so two weeks was definitely a challenge.
Luckily, our project managers, Kris Krause and Chris Carlson, were up for the job. Grant Thornton asked most of the employees to work from home or from their clients’ offices over the next six months. The idea is that the remaining employees could move to one-half of the office while the construction crew remodeled the other half. Considering that Grant Thornton has occupied their space for 17 years, one of the most difficult parts of the project was separating the surplus from the essential.
The Golden Gate Company Solution
To ensure the project’s success, Kris and Chris spent every day at Grant Thornton working with employees to help them pare down to necessities. They found space close to the office for storage and they organized a detailed move management services plan that saved time and coordinated employees’ schedules.
The Results
Our office relocation project managers were even able to save Grant Thornton money by finding a liquidator to carry out some of the old furniture. Because of our dedication and attention to detail, this move happened without a hitch!
